GENETICALLY INHERITED THOUGHTS

Being a writer with an analytical temperament, I tend to look for the deeper meaning in just about everything. Looking through some old photos of my great-grandparents the other day, the following observation crossed my mind:
Does each new life come pre-designed with fragmented memories transferred from direct ancestors that, in turn, become intricately woven into the structure of our personal DNA, giving these memories the control to override our own individuality?
Maybe each individual’s personal experiences are not as unique as the individual believes them to be. Maybe every activity and choice we make is generated by a transferred memory originally conceived by an ancestor.
Considering the possibility that this potential speculation might cause one to question one’s own individuality, I wondered, do we even have unique thought? And, if when we do find something that brings us pleasure, whether it’s a particular sound, smell, taste, activity, etc., is it because we are finding some unique truth exclusively designed for us for the first time?
As in the joy of discovering the scent of a sun-kissed rose; does someone smile blissfully because the pleasant fragrance in the present moment brings them joy? Or, might it be that they're re-awakening a long-buried memory from an ancestor who originally experienced bliss when smelling a fragrant rose during a time when they were in the midst of a passionate love affair. And if this history was in fact true, then the rose and its familiar fragrance could forever remind the ancestor of a blissful time that could be permanently fixed upon their memory.
It might be that we are all connected so intricately that we will, in turn, all experience every emotion and thought conceivable that a human being can experience. Though every thought and activity may not physically develop by the end when evaluating the metaphoric autobiography of our own life, with this theory, we may, within our DNA, bear the memories of all such experiences as a grand inheritance from the far-reaching lineage of our ancestors.
So, the next time you look at a photograph of your long-deceased ancestor, who, in the photograph, might be smiling happily in the middle of a healthy, richly-abundant vegetable garden just after a summer storm, you may want to take a second, deeper look at your ancestor. Besides taking notice to the facial features you may share, you may be looking at the face of the person who initiated your curiosity to understanding why it is that you; a condo-living, metropolis-loving person, jumps for joy each and every time you drive by a lawn and garden center.
Not only do we have our own life to live, but by way of our DNA, we may also have a lifetime of working through our long line of ancestors’ unsolved mysteries and unsettled scores.
Putting aside biology, and paranormally speaking,…we may all be hereditarily haunted. And if we accept this possibility, maybe then we'll be able to sever the ties binding us to our ancestors’ past.
With a clear focus and a hopeful spirit, we all have within us the ability to attain whatever goals our DNA rich minds can aspire to dream. And with respect to those who led the way for us, we can put forth another step, epitomizing our own identity, and make the journey of our future an enlightening experience.
